This ones a quick experimentation with Quinoa. With my growing liking towards Quinoa, I have been trying several dishes with these power grains. In this recipe, we will add some strong flavors to otherwise bland Quinoa – ginger & orange peel to make for a healthy Quinoa breakfast.
Quinoa – 2 cups
Ginger – 1 to 2 inch piece
Orange Peel – about 3 inch strand
Vanilla essence – 1 drop
Sugar – 2 table spoon
Milk – 1 cup
Baking Soda – 1/4 tea spoon
Salt to taste
To begin with wash Quinoa thoroughly – though most Quinoas come pre-washed, it is important to give them a proper wash as it helps take out some of slight bitter taste it tends to have. Soak it in water for half an hour to an hour. Mix all the ingredients together and blend it into a fine paste.
You can use this batter to make one of the healthy Quinoa breakfast – waffles or crepes. If you are making Waffles, keep the consistency thick, like that of pan cake batter.
Heat the waffle maker, spray some butter on the surface and pour the batter on the mould. Close the lid and let it cook for 3-4 mins or as per the setting on your waffle maker. Turn the waffles to the other side and let it cook again.
If you are making a crepe, add some water or milk to the batter and make it thinner. Heat a flat griddle in medium to high heat. Lightly spray butter on the surface and pour the batter at the center and slowly spread in circular motion to spread the batter as thinly as possible into a big round.
Let the crepe cook, when the sides start separating, slowly move spatula around and make it into the center and quickly flip the crepe to the other side. Let it cook on the other side for a couple more mins and slowly fold it.
Your healthy Quinoa breakfast is ready! Enjoy with some honey or syrup while it’s warm.
